GROUP LEADER – APPLIED STATISTICS
An experienced Applied Statistician is required at Rothamsted Research to collaborate with scientists and to develop statistical applications and methodology required by Rothamsted’s research programmes. These cover a very wide range of different scientific approaches and generate quantitative data from many different experimental platforms including our established long-term agricultural and ecology experiments and the latest high throughput molecular biology technologies such as Next Generation Sequencing. Our projects require varying levels of statistical input including multivariate methods, quantitative genetics and parameter estimation.
The post holder will collaborate with colleagues on areas of statistical research and will lead a small group of applied statisticians. This group works closely with scientists across the Institute, providing introductory statistical training for staff and PhD students as well as statistical consultancy. The post holder would have both a managerial role for the applied statistics group and provide technical expertise as well as undertaking more challenging applied statistical problems arising from research projects. The post-holder will also be responsible for investigating and establishing new collaborations both within and outside Rothamsted.
The ideal candidate will have considerable experience in applying statistical methods to scientific data, preferably in the area of crop/agricultural sciences and agro-ecology and be familiar with the challenges of analysing field and laboratory data. A strong track record of publishing in applied statistics and making statistical contributions to published high profile biological research is essential. Applicants should have a PhD in Applied Statistics or related subject or be able to demonstrate (through publications) that they have equivalent experience.
The post is an indefinite full time appointment with a starting salary normally in the region of £42,769 to £47,521 per annum.
