Hi everyone,
John McManus here, cataloguer at Trinity College Library, Dublin.
On the subject of tagging - I've been moderating the tags submitted to our catalogue for the last few years and to be honest it doesn't take up much of my time. Primarily this is because hardly anyone uses it - it has not achieved critical mass. I think tagging in the context of an academic library catalogue lacks the "social" dimension found on flickr and elsewhere - I'd love to hear of examples of libraries where it has been a success. Also, I should say, the fact that users have to log in seems to prevent abusive tags.
John
