Karen Chamberlain Poetry Festival

*Thunder River Theatre Company and the Board of Directors are pleased to
announce the second annual Karen Chamberlain Poetry Festival to be held at
Thunder River Theatre in Carbondale, Colorado, March 30 - April 1, 2012.
Everyone is invited to join us as we honor the inspiring life of Karen
Chamberlain, who passed away in September 2010. The theme of the second
installment of this annual series is "Poets of..." Karen could be said to
have been, at times, a poet of place. Her poetry named sacred places, and
those sacred places claimed her, the poet. There are also poets of witness,
poets of war, poets of family, poets of peace, poets of... Join us for an
exploration of the voice of the poet.

On the first night of the festival, enjoy the performances of Colorado
State Poet Laureate David Mason, poets Uche Ogbuji, Hildegard Guttendorfer,
Celeste Labadie, Eric Walter, River City Nomads, Kit Kalriess Muldoon, and
Western Slope Poet Laureate Art Goodtimes, among others. On Saturday,
participate in the many workshops that will be offered, among them: an
Author Photo Workshop with photographer/poet Kit Hedman; Poetry in Exile
with Aaron Abeyta; Finding your Voice in Creative Journaling led by Jim
Ciletti; Inspiration, Responsibility and Troublemaking - Stewart Warren;
and The Next Voice You Hear led by Chris Ransick. *
**
*Saturday evening features performances by Sandy Munro reading the poetry
of his great uncle Norman MacCaig who won the Queen's Medal for poetry in
Scotland, poet/performers SETH and Collette, Koyoonk'auwi poet Janice
Gould, Dr. Robert King of the Colorado Poet Center, Jack Mueller, Debby
Brody, Rachel Kellum, Aaron Abeyta, Mark Todd, Julie Cummings, the
WordHorde Performance Troupe, and many more. Both evening performances will
be followed by an open mic, $10 a turn, which benefits the poetry festival.
*

*The weekend concludes on Sunday with a continental breakfast, a
performance by David Rothman, a gourd circle led by Art Goodtimes, and two
very special poetry workshops - one that takes place in the portable
Western Sky Planetarium which will be set up in the theatre, and a field
trip workshop with Cameron Scott entitled The Story of Water. *

*Friday, March 30, the evening's festivities begin with a reception at 6:30
p.m., performances begin at 7 p.m. Saturday evening's performances begin at
7 p.m., and Sunday's continental breastfast takes place from 11.a.m. to
noon, followed by performances. Don't miss this incredible opportunity to
honor a great lady and to grow the poetry in your soul. *
