Subject: [FRANCOFIL] vacancy: Director of Foreign Language Teaching, Univ.
of Bristol
Director of Foreign Language Teaching
(vacancy ref. 17003)
The University of Bristol seeks to appoint a Director of Foreign Language
Teaching in the School of Modern Languages from 1 August 2012 or as soon as
possible thereafter.
This newly created post is a high-profile managerial role within a
flourishing School of Modern Languages. It is pivotal to an ambitious
restructuring which brings together within a large single unit the foreign
language teaching previously conducted separately within the University's
former Language Centre and School of Modern Languages.
You will be expected to take a vigorous lead in developing and implementing
a language-teaching strategy at the forefront of current pedagogical
practice, and raising the profile of foreign language teaching both within
the University and beyond. You will line-manage a team of seven directors
of operations in individual languages and language-teaching specialisms
(translation, technology-enhanced learning), will have oversight of all
language-teaching staff, and coordinate activities to ensure maximally
coherent and efficient delivery of a large-scale, university-wide teaching
operation.
You will have substantial experience of leadership and management of
language programmes and professionals in the HE Sector. You will also have
native or near native competence and considerable teaching experience in a
relevant language. Extensive knowledge of recent developments in the field
of Language Teaching/Applied Language is essential; a record of publication
in the field may be an advantage.
Interviews will be held during the week commencing 7 May 2012.
