Dear all
Here is a slightly odd question for you: I recently noticed that a receipt
lying on my desk was exactly the same width as the diameter of my coffee mug
- 77.5 mm. I am not sure why, but this surprised me. So I Googled 77.5 mm
and discovered lots of other things to be the same diameter, length or
width. I looked up some other measurements and found the same thing - lots
of odd things that share a dimension. So I am wondering whether there is any
patterning within these various similarly sized things. For example a lot of
the '77.5 mm' stuff has to do with engines. But before I become too
obsessed, I wonder if anyone is aware of anything like this having been done
already, either on modern material culture or more ancient stuff. Are there
any mass-produced artefacts from other periods that share the same
dimensions?
Or am I just being silly ... again.
Best wishes,
John
