Research Associate in Urban Political Economy
University of Glasgow - College of Science & Engineering
To develop, conduct and publish high-quality research in urban political economy (broadly defined), and to take shared responsibility for obtaining research funding and managing externally-funded research projects. It is anticipated that the focus of the research will be in cities in advanced economies and is likely to be concerned with work in one or more of the following areas: neoliberalism and urban governance; urban politics, democracy and contestation; economic development and regeneration in old industrial cities; labour market restructuring and employment change; and alternative living and working spaces outside the formal economy.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
. Develop own research agenda and contribute to the collective development of urban political economy within the agreed research strategy of the Human Geography Research Group
. Initiate research projects and funding proposals
. Plan and direct research projects, individually and/or collaboratively
. Present work at seminars and major conferences
. Participate in School research group activities and in new initiatives
. Represent School research and knowledge transfer activities outwith the School, College and the University
. Represent projects at collaborators' meetings (where appropriate)
. Make occasional contributions to undergraduate and PGT teaching
. Undertake any other duties of equivalent standing as required by the Head of School.

Salary will be on the University's Research and Teaching Grade, level 7, £31,798 - £35,788 per annum.New entrants to the University will be required to serve a probationary period of 6 months.
This position has funding for 24 months.
The successful applicant will be eligible to join the Universities' Superannuation Scheme. Further information regarding the scheme is available from the Superannuation Officer, who is also prepared to advise on questions relating to the transfer of Superannuation benefits.All research and related activities, including grants, donations, clinical trials, contract research, consultancy and commercialisation are required to be managed through the University's relevant processes (e.g. contractual and financial), in accordance with the University Court's policies.
