It does. However, as long as I have the choice, I would prefer open
source (in the DFSG sense) software.
If the obfuscated version of slalib is literally included in astlib or
ds9, they would have to go to "non-free" and all packages depending on
them would need to be in "contrib". Neither "non-free nor "contrib" are
part of Debian:

We could also think about a "non-free" slalib-C package as an
alternative package. But since slalib hopefully will be replaced by SOFA
soon (did I understand this right?), I am not sure whether this is worth
the effort.
However, is there an "obfuscated" slalib-C source package available for
download?
