thanks for your curiosity about SPM12.
We are indeed planning to release a new 'major' version of SPM this
year. I'm afraid there is no release date yet because it will depend on
how fast new developments go. We will make further announcements in due
time.
I can however reassure you that your teaching of the use of SPM8 is not
becoming obsolete with this new version to come, and we will do our best
to preserve backward compatibility whenever possible.
