fit as a fiddle – A Lasting Legacy for Healthy Ageing
A conference being held by Age UK
15th March 2012 at the Thistle Hotel Marble Arch
fit as a fiddle is an England wide project which delivers physical activity and healthy eating sessions to older people to improve their health and mental well being. Over 300,000 people have taken part in fit as a fiddle activities from Aqua Aerobics to Zumba since it began in October 2007. To date 4,500 older people have been recruited and trained to support fit as a fiddle activities. External evaluation of fit as a fiddle highlights the impact the project has had on older peoples lives. Over 71% of people were continuing with physical activity sessions and 13% improving their eating habits 3 months after the programme had ended in their area.
This conference will highlight the good practice from both regional and national projects delivering the fit as a fiddle portfolio. It will explore how fit as a fiddle can become self sustaining by linking into the Government initiatives of localism and commissioning.
The fit as a fiddle portfolio is funded by the Big Lottery Fund as part of the Wellbeing programme, to deliver £15.1 million worth of projects across all 9 English regions until 2012.
