Hi

We have test/dev server(s) for our T4 application and database that pretty much matches our production environment but nothing for non-T4 web development, though this may change as we are about to move everything to new boxes.

Load testing? You must be joking.

As for a mac, we have a relatively new iMac that sits with our main web developer (Zsolt), but it's not really been used as he's only just in position and we've not been doing that much functional development - yet!

Hi Allan

We did have a test/development website on a shared server which roughly matched our old live/production website webserver (Windows Server, IIS, ASP.NET), although it had to cope with many different functions (including some content management!). This has now been taken away, although we were promised a new virtualized web development environment.

We also had a test/development SQL Server with databases that match our live/production databases, although these are under threat because of a server retiral programme. We may get a new one, hopefully SQL Server 2008 this time.

It has been very difficult getting the message across that we need these kind of resources as a minimum, even just for maintenance, let alone the prototyping, demos, exemplars, technical peer reviews and proofs of concept that I was used to producing, and reusing.

A Mac? I wish. Mine was boxed up and is probably sitting in a cupboard somewhere. It did have IE5, I believe... But it is too old for testing on now really.

I did have a go at home on Adobe's BrowserLab for simulating web browsers, but it has some restrictions (on keyboard input, I think) so I gave that up.

Is there any chance of a shared development server platform in the sector? Maybe with SQL databases full of dummy data, tutorials, open source licences, sample code libraries...

Hi webfolks

Just a quick query about whether you have testing environments for your web work, and if so, how they're set up, i.e. is it just a busted old Mac in the corner of the office with IE6 on it, or do you have a complete replicated environment with dedicated web and database servers and load testing stuff and whatnot.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

Allan
