Thanks Stephen - that's an interesting reading - yes, the angles of the
flat bed (like donne's imagined earth) become 'angels', which nurses are
called in sentimental parlance (it was they who noticed the eyes opening
,and the winces). I last saw him myself 10 days before when he was still
conscious and able to sit upright.

missed this one, David. I like it. In those situations, I imagine, what a
relief if those nocturnal "angles" could become 'angels'.
But you are, or the guy writing writing the poem, and his host, are, materially
speaking, 'right there'!
