ICESS-12 Satellite Meeting
Dear colleagues,
Taking advantage of the 12th edition of the International Conference on Electron Spectroscopy and Structure (ICESS-12<http://www.synchrotron-soleil.fr/Workshops/2012/ICESS2012>) to be held in Saint-Malo in 2012, year of the 80th birthday of T. Darrah THOMAS – Distinguished Professor of Chemistry at the Oregon State University (USA), we decided to celebrate this event by organizing the satellite meeting:
“High Resolution Spectroscopies of Isolated Species: present and future directions”
to be held at SOLEIL the weekend before the start of ICESS12 conference, 14th and 15th September 2012.
Prof. T. Darrah Thomas is an amazingly active and creative scientist, an eminent professor, a close collaborator or a respected friend. To many, Darrah represents all these things at a time! He did major contributions in the Atomic and Molecular Science field over more than 50 years of scientific career, and we would like to thank him for his devotion, imagination and the great science he produced, mainly by using high-resolution electron spectroscopy.
The workshop will gather together international experts in electron spectroscopy who will exchange on the actual state-of-the-art in high-resolution electron and related spectroscopies on atoms and molecules, and will outline the future directions in this scientific field. The scientific topics to be covered are representative of those developed by Darrah during his long and prolific career:
• High-resolution VUV, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy of isolated species
• Radiative and non-radiative resonant Raman scattering: experiments and theory
• Translational and rotational recoil and Doppler broadening effects
• Lifetime broadening of core levels
• Photoelectron spectroscopy applied to molecular potentials reconstruction and molecular
structure determination
• Non Franck-Condon and non Born-Oppenheimer effects in direct and resonant
photoemission spectroscopy
• Electron spectroscopy and chemical properties, effects of substituents and molecular conformations
• Vibrational structure and vibronic coupling in inner-shell photoelectron and resonant photoemission
spectra
The 2nd announcement and Call for papers will be released in the beginning of April 2012. Meanwhile, please book the dates and do not hesitate to address any question by e-mail to:
