Dear MCG'ers,
Apologies for posting a message that is not strictly within the scope,
but I thought that colleagues might be interested in the announcement we
have just issued concerning the join Collections Trust/Independent
newspaper 'Hidden Treasures' campaign which will take place this June. A
full invitation is below, but for those of you wishing to cut to the
chase, you can read about the campaign and how to participate at
http://www.collectionslink.org.uk/events/hidden-treasures. Please do
circulate this message to your colleagues.
I am pleased to be able to invite you formally to participate in the
'Hidden Treasures' campaign.
What is 'Hidden Treasures'?
So what is 'Hidden Treasures'? At heart, it is a campaign with a
national media partner to raise public awareness of the richness of
collections cared for by UK museums and galleries.
Between the 4th June (Spring Bank Holiday) and the 10th, we are asking
museums and galleries up and down the country to open up their stored
collections for Independent readers to discover and enjoy. Whether
through an open store or a series of store-tours, we would like to
invite people to find out about collections, why we have them and what
is involved in looking after them.
Promotion by the Independent
In the run-up to the event, the Independent will carry a special
full-colour pullout section featuring the participating venues. Each
venue will have a short description, at least one image and information
about how Independent readers can access their 'Hidden Treasures' event.
This is a great opportunity to showcase your collections to the
Independent's UK-wide readership.
We will set up a booking line and dedicated booking website for
Independent readers to book their visit to your venue. Numbers will be
strictly limited to whatever you tell us is the maximum. We will take
bookings and communicate them to you in advance of the visits.
On the day(s)
On the day, Independent readers will bring their 'Hidden Treasures'
vouchers to your venue at the time and location you specify, and we hope
you will give them a warm welcome. After the event, we would like to
contact you one final time to capture your thoughts about the campaign
and to see whether it has the potential to become an annual celebration
of collections.
Take the next step...
We hope that you will see this as a valuable opportunity to showcase
your collections and your venue. Now we need you to confirm formally
that you are happy to participate! To confirm, just go to the campaign
page at http://www.collectionslink.org.uk/events/hidden-treasures and
complete the 'Participants Form' at the bottom of the page.
Please note that we are not asking for the details of your 'Hidden
Treasures' activities at this stage - we know that this might take some
time to pull together, so in the first instance we are asking for your
formal confirmation of participation so that we can update the team at
the Independent about numbers. Once you have confirmed, we will contact
you in a few weeks for information about your activities.
Finally, once you have confirmed, don't forget to join the 'Hidden
Treasures Campaign Partners
<http://www.collectionslink.org.uk/groups/viewgroup/129-Hidden+Treasures
+Campaign+Partners> ' group on Collections Link (you will need to be
registered & logged in to join), from where you will be able to access
logos, promotional material and updates about the Campaign.
Finally, thanks so much for considering participating in this important
campaign!
Yours sincerely,
Nick Poole
