Hi Jane,
Not 100% what you're after, but Brinley Franklin wrote an article on the cost of print v. electronic journals which included the 'physical' costs of holding print collections: http://archive.ifla.org/IV/ifla70/papers/098e-Franklin.pdf
He pulled on the research from Carol Hansen Montgomery and Donald King, "Comparing Library and User Related Costs of Print and Electronic Journal Collections": http://www.dlib.org/dlib/october02/montgomery/10montgomery.html
I'd be interested in your findings.
Kind regards,
Selena

Subject: [LIS-LINK] Cost of shelving an item in a library
Dear all,
Has anyone ever done any calculations on how much it costs to keep an item on a library shelf? Preferably including costs of maintaining the building, lighting, heating, staffing etc. I seem to remember seeing something that was done for US public libraries a couple of years ago and I now can't find it. As we're a UK HE library, i'd prefer a figure from that sector, but I would be interested in figures from other sectors too.
As you may have guessed, i'm getting my ammunition in place for some summer stock weeding.
Thanks in advance,
Jane
