A postgraduate German film symposium will take place at
the University of Leeds on Friday 16th March
2012. The event is part of the 'Interrogating German Cinema' series
and aims to attract any postgraduate student who wishes to present a
paper on Subversion and Resistance in German film. This is a symposium
organised by postgraduate students at the University of Leeds for
other postgraduate students around the country, so welcomes
postgraduate students of all ages and abilities.
We welcome Papers from any period of German film. Papers might
address, but are not limited to:
Aesthetic boundaries and transgressions
Genre convention vs innovation
Legacies of war
Cold War ideologies
Ethics and morals
Performance and exhibition
Transnational filmmaking
Ethnicity and gender
Queer film
Terrorism and violence
Globalisation vs the German heritage film
Space and memory
Film production in 21st century Germany
Reconfigurations of Heimat
The workshop will close with a presentation on How to Get Published
by Dr. Chris Homewood, current co editor of the Intellect journal New
Cinemas, and Lecturer in German and World Cinemas at the University of
Leeds.
Abstracts should be of 250/300 words and be submitted to Rachel
Green ([log in to unmask]) no later than 13 Februar 2012.
Papers should not exceed twenty minutes and will be followed by a
discussion. Refreshments will be provided on the day.
