Subject: [IDA_CRPD_Forum] access to justice for women and girls with
disabilities
Dear all,
Thank you for including me in this very informative and valuable listserv.
Currently I am engaged in research on access to justice for women and girls
with disabilities, with a focus on the myriad ways the justice system has
been used to discriminate against women and girls with disabilirties and
alternative approaches to address such practices with a focus on Article 13
of the CRPD as well as relevant provisions of CEDAW, reading both
conventions together.
Last spring I published a law review article on access to justice for
persons with disabilities (not with the same gender focus as in my current
project) and that article looked at access to justice, proposed a framework
for the CRPD Committee to develop a General Recommendation on the issue and
other concepts. That article is:
Stephanie Ortoleva, "Inaccessible Justice Human Rights, Persons with
Disabilities and the Legal System, 17 ILSA J. Int'l & Comp. L. 281 (Spring
2011)
If anyone has any materials on the subject of access to justice for women
and girls with disabilities, I'd appreciat e if you would share them with
me, especially information about the situation of access to justice for
women and girls with disabilities in various countries and information on
programs to address the gaps in access to justice for women and girls with
disabilities.
If you have such materials, you can send them to me directly at either of
the email addresses below.
I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season and that 2012 expands the
rights of persons with disabilities internationally.
