Hi Barry.
You could get in touch with Special Effect, they may be able to do an
assessment for you.

I know they carry quite a range of assessment stock.

He's very much novice gamer & mum doesn't want to put lots of effort in
if he's going to lose interest. Also I'd generally like to try the
simplest, cheapest solution first!

I am curious.
What does his age have to do with the style of provision?
Geoff.

Subject: xbox problems
Dear all
I'm working with a 8 year old lad with CP who has dexterity issues with
his xbox controller. A logical step would be to use an arcade stick to
give him a larger, fixed joystick & bigger, wider - spaced buttons. But
that means moving from a controller with 2 joysticks, 1 Dpad & umpteen
buttons to one with one joystick & 6(?) buttons.
Can anyone tell me whether xbox handles this sensibly?
Eg is it intelligent enough to automatically use the inputs that are
available?
Can controls be reassigned on xbox?
We don't want to go to the extent of a fully adapted controller from eg
Broadened Horizons because of his age.
