Dear list members,
The Archives Hub continues to provide an effective way for archives to reach a wide and diverse audience, enabling researchers to find archives across the UK in their field of interest. We know how important it is for many researchers to have a resource that is as comprehensive as possible. We now have over 200 contributors and a great diversity of archives represented on the Hub.
We are very keen to represent those of you using Axiell CALM, and with this in mind we have been working with Axiell to improve the export from CALM. The aim is that you can simply export descriptions and add them to the Hub. There has been an export option for some time, but with earlier export routines the data sometimes required a significant amount of editing. We are pleased to say that Axiell have been able to incorporate an improved export routine in CALM 9.1.
We are always very pleased to receive descriptions via CALM, and will do all we can to help you with the export. But it is worth noting that for earlier versions there may be some editing involved - we can take you through how to do this - we make it relatively easy by providing an Editor for you. For those of you using CALM 9.1, we are hoping that your descriptions will require very little editing, and maybe none at all. However, we do have to take each case individually, as different repositories catalogue differently, and we want to help you make your descriptions as effective as possible for online access.
We are also working with other archive systems, and we will update you on our progress in improving data exchange with these systems periodically. So, whatever system you use, we are keen to hear from you and do what we can to help you contribute to the Hub. We are often looking for repositories to help us by sending descriptions so that we can test the export and see what needs changing to make things work better.
Please do get in touch with us if you would like the benefit of being part of a UK aggregator. It may be that just a small amount of editing means that we can take all of your descriptions. Sometimes we can carry out global edits for you as well. We welcome all repositories to the Hub, and take both collection-level and multi-level descriptions.
