Dear all,
I was at the TIG meeting on Wednesday and briefly mentioned one aspect of the Black Dance Archives project, which was the creation of various documents relating to cataloguing and caring for archives. These documents include a classification scheme (a list of the types of records that might be found in a typical dance collection); guidelines on the care of records; and a retention schedule.
Some people have expressed an interest in these, and I would be more than happy to supply these documents for feedback and comments. Although they are being worked on as part of this particular project, they are obviously of use for dance archives (and performance arts) in general and may of interest in the long term as TIG resource documents? In fact, the care of records document is an amalgam of the current guidance for theatres and personal collections that are on the resources page of the TIG website.
If you would like copies of these items (which are still in draft form) please let me know.
I also mentioned at the TIG meeting that part of the Black Dance Archives project involves getting details on material relating to Black dance that has already been deposited at dance/theatre/performance arts organisations & museums, archives, libraries, universities etc. I have collated some information from websites and elsewhere but if you have items that are relevant I would be grateful for any further information or leads.
Regards,
Gary Collins
