Post-Doctoral Position in Statistical Genetics.
Applications are invited for a post-doctoral position at the Department
of Mathematics and Statistics at McMaster University. The successful
candidate will work with Dr. Angelo Canty and his collaborators on
derivation of methods to deal with complex datasets arising from genetic
experiments including genome-wide association studies for complex
pheontypes, next generation sequencing data and the analysis of gene
expression miocroarray data. The work will involve real datasets as well
as designing and running complex simulation studies to examine new
methodology in realistic settings. It will also require communicating
and working closely with collaborators in the biological and medical
sciences. Other duties will include teaching one course in statistics
each term.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in statistics, biostatistics or
a related area with very strong statistical training. Excellent
programming skills in R (or S-Plus) are essential as are strong written
and oral communication skills in English. Prior experience with
statistical analysis of genetic data would be beneficial but is not
required.
The position will ideally commence on or before July 1, 2012 and
provides a stipend of $42,000 plus a grant for research expenses. It is
expected to be tenable for two years depending on research funding.
Consideration of applicants will commence on February 20, 2012 and
continue until the position is filled. The position is open to
applicants of any nationality and selection will be based on the
candidates research potential in statistical genetics. Applicants should
provide a CV and at least three letters of recommendation, with at least
one of the letters reporting on the candidate's teaching abilities.
Preferably applications will be submitted through the MathJobs website
www.mathjobs.org; they may also be sent directly to:
