A Medical Statistician is required to join the Primary Care and Population Sciences Academic Unit within the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Southampton.
Primary Care and Population Sciences is an academic group of over 70 staff with a unified management and research strategy led by Professor Paul Roderick Professor of Public Health. It comprises the Primary Care Research group, Public Health group, Medical Statistics group and the NIHR RDS (Research Design Service) South Central.
The main focus of the post is to be part of a research team undertaking a large, externally funded study looking at post-operative wound infection. This is a collaborative project with colleagues in the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Research group in the Academic Unit of Clinical and Experimental Medicine. This study will utilise data from the General Practice Research Database (GPRD). You will be responsible for conducting the statistical analysis and reporting/presenting the results. You will be part of the Medical Statistics group and you will be expected to collaborate on other clinical research projects within Primary Care and Population Sciences and the Faculty of Medicine. Your input on these projects will include providing statistical advice, performing statistical analyses and reporting results to researchers. There will be some opportunities for teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
You will have an MSc degree with high statistical content and a sound knowledge of medical statistics. You should have some experience of analysing health related data or equivalent, and expertise in using statistical packages such as SAS, Stata and SPSS.
This is a Fixed-Term post which is available for 24 months.
