Alan,
I think that what you need is a hoist that does not break the fire door at the head. Certain manufacturers do a hoist type that does not rely on a track to cross the door so the fire integrity is maintained. It relies instead on a hook type system that runs under the door. I have no personal experience of these but have seen them in catalogues. Can't quite remember who makes at present but can dig info up if it sounds of interest
