The University of Central Lancashire is hosting a debate on the question: Can Sustainable Tourism include Flying?
Are the social benefits brought to different parts of the world by tourism more important than the environmental damage caused by the emissions and use of fossil fuels?
Arguing that they are will be Valere Tjolle Sustainable Tourism Editor for TravelMole, the largest on-line community for the travel and tourism industry and Dr Davina Stanford, Writer, Researcher and Lecturer in responsible tourism at the International Centre for Research in Events, Tourism and Hospitality, Leeds Met University.
Arguing that flying and sustainability are incompatible will be former aeronautic engineer Paul Peeters, now Associate Professor of Sustainable Tourism and Transport at NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences and Professor Les Lumsdon, UCLan Emeritus Professor of Tourism and author of numerous books and papers on Sustainable Tourism and slow travel.
Keeping order in what promises to be a lively debate will be Professor Richard Sharpley, Professor of Tourism and Development at the University of Central Lancashire author of numerous books and papers about tourism, development and sustainability.
The debate, which is free to attend, will take place in UCLan's Darwin Lecture Theatre at 4pm on 30th March. all welcome!
