The new issue of Networking Knowledge is now online, freely available to read at: http://journalhosting.org/meccsa-pgn/index.php/netknow/ The journal features work by postgraduates and early career researchers, and is the official publication of the MeCCSA Postgraduate Network.
The current issue - our biggest ever - has a main emphasis on "Girlhood in Popular Culture". Guest edited by Melanie Kennedy (UEA), this major look at constructions of Western girlhood features - amongst other fascinating articles - work on black femininity in urban street fiction, the representation of teenage femininities in magazine adverts, MTV's Teen Mom series, and online fandom of Taylor Swift.
The issue also features work based on papers given at the 2011 MeCCSA-PGN Conference in Bournemouth, covering diverse topics such as the media representation of Asian football players, the theatre work of Robert Wilson, cinematographer Gregg Toland, and a case study of labour in the Chinese Internet industry.
Finally, there are contributions helping to foster a sense of postgraduate community. Emma Pett and Mareike Jenner provide an overview of PGR work at Aberystwyth University, and Vicky Kearley (MeCCSA-PGN Training Officer) gives information on how students can get actively involved with the PGN.
Networking Knowledge is put together entirely by postgraduates and early career researchers, and we are always happy to hear feedback or suggestions for future issues.
Many thanks,
Tom
