NEWPORT CENTRE FOR CRIMINAL AND COMMUNITY JUSTICE
CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PAPERS
The Newport Centre for Criminal and Community Justice is holding its eighth one day conference on:
27th April 2012
University of Wales, Newport
Caerleon Campus
Title: ‘From Victim Policy to Victim Oriented Policies: theory and practice for different victim groups’
First, victims were ignored by the criminal justice system. Then victim policies emerged across the industrial world. The theme of this conference is that we have moved beyond a victim policy to ‘victim oriented policies’: different victims have different experiences and policies should reflect the diversity of victims’ needs.
Note: potential delegates, please note these details. Booking information will follow in February 2012.
There are 3 confirmed keynote speakers:
• Rob Mawby, Visiting Professor, University of Wales, Newport: ‘Burglary and the Ideal Victim’
• Tim Chapman, University of Ulster: ‘Stories, Narratives and Discourses: Engaging Victims in Restorative Justice’
• Dr Jane Monckton-Smith, University of Gloucestershire: ‘Giving voice to victims of homicide: Domestic Homicide Reviews and the importance of victim participation
