I have been getting this same question over and over ever since Kobe
Bryant recommended his friend A-Rod go to Germany to get Orthokine which
is unavailable in the U.S. and Bartolo Colon went for stem cell treatment
in the Caribbean rather than have treatment in the U.S.
.
For thousands of years man has looked for the great shortcut. First it was
the legendary Fountain of Youth where drinking the waters would restore
youth; never found even by Ponce de Leon. Later professional athletes
looked toward any substance that might make them perform better.
.
Former New York Giant Lawrence Taylor, for instance, tried DMSO (dimethyl
sulfoxide: a veterinary liniment rubbed on horses muscles to help them run
better). Once Lawrence was using DMSO, the locker room filled with
copycats. Players continued to use it until they figured out it really
didn't work.
.
Then came steroids, human growth hormone and other supplements believed to
speed healing and increase strength, speed and power. The problem with
these substances is that they pose health risks and are banned by sports
leagues, although they work, so professionals tried to "beat the system"
and still use them.
.
Now, the newest fad/procedures recommended by friends to each other are
these blood spinning techniques..
.
As a physician with sports medicine training, I only recommend to my
patients treatment plans and treatments that are "evidence based
medicine."
.
What this means is that there are scientific medical papers based on good
medical research that have been published in highly respected medical
journals.
