Plenty missing. Pete elaborates on some in his speech and there is a
long list somewhere a few people compiled, but not sure there's any
purpose reproducing it. Certainly they exclude most of the, what you
might call, linguistically innovative, experimental, political, what-
have-you crowd, (even conservatively configured), and pay scant
attention to non-anglo and indigenous poets. Not completely, there are
some tokens there, but it's pretty much the usual 19th century stuff
and accessible modernist 20th/21st century lyric and narrative poem.
Plus I suspect some pay-back is part of the exclusions, leftovers of
poetry wars and such.
And some just inexplicable exclusions and inclusions which, maybe, is
always the territory of anthologists. That can be the interest of an
anthology, the subjective element, at a conceptual level, even if you
don't want to read it.
