My Marilyn and I drove up from our Melbourne suburb to the Dandenong Range where a friend shared his last meal of 2011 with us.
He had a bottle ready to share of a South Australian shiraz labelled 'Oomoo', which sounded Melvillian to me, but the label said it was an Aboriginal word.
Driving home well before midnight was surprisingly sedate, but a mistake as the neighbours' party, for which the parents had already apologised to us, was a long loud gathering of inexhaustible folk in their twenties. Ah, youth…
Fireworks! not nearby but next day the news had stories of how they set fire to the Arts Centre spire briefly, made dozens of dogs panic and get lost, ending up in various lost dogs' homes, and also home made fireworks killed one merrymaker….
