Subject: Re: favOERites Project - comments and feedback
Dear Lorna,
Thanks again to you and all those who provided comments and to the
OER_DISCUSS community for the Hack day and initial discussion of
proposals.
Yes, we are still looking at completing the intended integration with
Dynamic Learning Maps.
We don't have OAI ORE feeds currently, though would obviously be very
nice to have in the future.
We certainly did hope for more dialogue with the OER-DISCUSS community.
The key problem was that we just ran out of time in the project. We were
very ambitious with the technical developments and very pleased with what
Paul and James were able to achieve with this level of time/resource, but
we really left ourselves working up to the wire on this one. Thatıs our
fault for aiming to develop so much in the first place, but for any
potential future mini project calls we would recommend that 5 months is
perhaps too short. A longer time frame, even within the same budget, would
have made formative discussion more feasible and contributed to the
evaluation, which was incorporated into the final report.
With best wishes,
Simon

__Deliverables__
* Do you envisage being able to complete the integration with Dynamic
Learning Maps in the foreseeable future?
* Is it possible to get OAI ORE feeds of search results?
* Did the project produce the intended evaluation report?
* We would have appreciated more communication and engagement with the
oer-discuss mailing list. This goes for both Mini-Projects.
__Technical feedback__
* Authentication - twitter authentication didnıt work consistently,
google and OpenID authentication did work, though openID authentication
logged Phil in with a random string.
* The tool has all the basic functionality required to do the job.
* We have not tested the API but it looks good and appears to be
thoroughly documented. We can also see the value of having an open easily
integrated system.
* The ability to clone playlists is useful.
* The tool did not manage to pull in licensing information from the CETIS
OER topic page, youtube or flickr. It did pull in a license from Johnıs
CETIS blog but it picked up the generic license for the blog rather than
a specific license for the a different post rather than the generic
license for the blog bookmarked. Phil tried bookmarking a post from his
own blog directly into favOREites and the creative commons home page
using the bookmarklet. In neither instance was a licence recorded.
* The interface could be improved to encourage people to use the tool and
engage with the API. Alternatively the tool could become a backend
system available only through the API, with users building their own
interfaces.
* The tool is a bit buggy but this is to be expected of a proof of
concept prototype.
* Some modification is required around how sessions are handled.
* The search function did not appear to work.
* Would it be possible to automatically import the title and description
of a resource when a page is bookmarked using the web form if only the
URL is entered (the bookmarklet does something along these lines)?
In the spirit of openness that the Mini-Projects Programme has attempted
to foster would you object to us sending a copy of these comments to
oer-discuss?
Weıd also like to thank you for participating in the experimental OER
Mini-Projects Programme. Weıve learned a lot from the experience and
hope to share some feedback and reflections with both JISC and the
oer-discuss mailing list.
Thanks again
Lorna
