I have 3 thoughts that come to mind (rmeber from my own expereince)
* lumbar rolls can over exagerate the curve lumbar curve and make some things worse not better so if a workplace was going to supply such, it had best be on the advice of a physio or osteopath who has assessed the problem.
* back ache in pregnancy can also be managed by a special belt
* Pregnant women with backache are going to have backache almost 24/7 till delivery so surely they would prefer ownership of the tool that helps them so they can take it home!
Tilting the chair back rest back a bit also helps as sitting upright with a Space Occupying Bundle of Joy is a challenge when the space cannot expand any further up or down
Happy days
Sue

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] DSE Assessments in Pregnant Workers
Dear List
I am new to this company and the majority of workers are DSE users. I have recently been experiencing a large number of Management requests to undertake DSE Assessments mainly in pregnant workers and have encountered some with lower back pain. They are requesting some form of lumbar support e.g lumbar rolls. I have carried out DSE Assessments and made adjustments to their workstations to comply with DSE Regs but some still insist that they need some form of extra support.I happened to speak to some nurses who used to work for this company and they suggested asking them to bring in a bath towel and roll it up or a small cushion for lumbar support instead of recommending lumbar rolls. My main worry is if I can recommend these as a Specialist Practitioner? The two types of chairs in use within this organisations are the GO and the G64 chairs. In some instances I have recommended the lumbar sleeve for the G64 and the mesh backrest for the GO chairs and these have helped. Please help!
