(posted on behalf of Prof. Roberto Sanchez-Delgado)
Postdoctoral position at Brooklyn College, City University of New York
Immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the group of Prof. Roberto Sanchez-Delgado, to work on theoretical/computational studies of the mechanisms of resistance to antimalarial drugs.
Our group searches for new effective organic and organometallic drugs against resistant malaria (P. falciparum). As part of that effort we aim to better understand the role of the PfCRT protein in the resistance mechanism through computational studies. The candidate will work in concert with other (experimental) members of the group who are performing synthesis and evaluation of new drugs, and with our collaborators in computational chemistry (Prof. Andrzej Jarzecki at Brooklyn College and Prof. L. Rincon at ULA, Venezuela).
Specifically, the work involves modeling the structure of the PfCRT protein, as well as its interactions with known drugs and with new potential lead molecules, using DFT and MM methods.
Other Duties:
-To train and supervise undergraduate and graduate students.
-To serve as a bridge with collaborators from other labs/institutions in the area of theoretical/computational chemistry.
-To provide general computational support for the group.
-To prepare drafts for publications.
Salary:$36,000 - $40,000 per year depending on qualifications/experience (initial appointement for one year, with possibility of renewal)
NYC and Brooklyn in particular offer unique cultural and entertainment possibilities.
Core Competencies/Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Computational Chemistry or related field.
Experience in DFT and MM methods, docking studies, QSAR models.
Some experience in experimental organic, organometallic chemistry, biochemistry, or catalysis would be a plus, but is not required.
