Oral History Interviewer, An Oral History of the Electricity Supply Industry in the UK
National Life Stories (NLS) at the British Library is initiating a new oral history fieldwork programme to document the history of the electricity industry in Britain through the memories and experiences of those who worked in it. Using a life story interview methodology, 'An Oral History of the Electricity Supply Industry in the UK' will record in-depth interviews with a cross-section of individuals active in the electricity supply industry within living memory. The new programme has been informed and guided by a detailed Scoping Study which recommended the collection of a minimum of 45 interviews over a three year period. For more information on NLS visit www.bl.uk/nls.
NLS is now seeking to recruit a full-time oral history interviewer to undertake the recordings for this important programme. The oral history interviewer will co-ordinate, initiate, research and carry out a series of digital oral history interviews averaging 10-12 hours each, for deposit with the British Library. The postholder will be expected to carry out and document approximately 15 interviews in each 12 month period.
This is a freelance fee-paid consultancy involving a package of 230 days' work per annum at an initial daily rate of £109.20, working on a flexible basis for a period up to 36 months, subject to an initial 'review of progress' meeting after four months. All travel and other out-of-pocket expenses will be met by NLS. Hot desk office space is available at NLS's offices at the BL's St Pancras building but home-based access to a PC with broadband internet access is required. The post will be an integral part of the BL's oral history team.
