Hi,
For any members of the list thinking about or working on contributing data to the Learning Registry or building services on top of the available data who may have not have heard about this yet.
The experimental learning registry node at MIMAS (JLeRN http://jlernexperiment.wordpress.com/ ) and CETIS are holding a hackday on January 23rd for developers working on the Learning Registry (whether using the JLeRN experimental node, the other public nodes, or any other). Mimas have appointed a R&D lead, Sarah Currier, and part of her remit in the coming months is to lead Mimas's work on the JLeRN LR node.
The meeting at Mimas on Monday 23rd January 2012 is to give you a chance to talk about what you're hoping to do, what Mimas will be trying, and demonstrate anything you've worked on (and try to share/replicate it if you like), identify issues and try with the LR Sandbox node and the JLeRN node (yes, there is already a Mimas node to play with as well as the main test node!).
For developers wanted to attend who do not currently have JISC project funding, Mimas have some limited funding available to support your participation if you need it (please contact Sarah or me for more details).
The meeting will kick off about 11:00 but we'll have the room from around 9:30 if you get there early to set up/ tinker/ network. We'll keep the formal aspect of the meeting brief as the time is really for you to ask questions, test and investigate the technology and any trial data/ tools that you may have. We'll give a few presentations 11-12 about providing a brief overview of recent progress and the JLeRN node. After lunch will be fairly informal with discussions, demos, and testing. We'll finish 3:30-4:30.
We are assuming that participants are mostly developers and have some idea of what the learning registry is, and who are planning on contributing data to it or building services on it - for a refresher or to find out more please see: http://www.learningregistry.org/documents.
I've set up a registration page here http://jisc.cetis.ac.uk/events/register.php?id=290 but if you're hoping to come along please also add a note to the following Google Doc ( (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ncG_w4FOYXVmLpUueHcQngN1yRrUz97qANuic15ZXdE/edit ) about what you're doing or hoping to do and any of the issues you've encountered so far. If you can't come along but are interested please comment / leave a note as well.
thank you,
John
