Job Summary
Available from 1 April 2012
We are looking to appoint a Lecturer with a strong research trajectory in the field of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The School of Geography is a leading international research department, one of the top-ranked in the UK. Applications will be considered from individuals of international standing/potential who will complement, strengthen and extend existing expertise in the School of Geography particularly within the Centre for Spatial Analysis and Policy (CSAP), one of the School’s research clusters.
We seek applications from any research field covered by GIS, but we particularly welcome applications from those with an interest in spatial analysis and policy who will either develop existing research expertise and teaching in any of the following areas: demography and population geography; quantitative social policy (including health, deprivation, education and crime); and geocomputation; or who will develop critical approaches to GIS and make links between CSAP and the other human geography clusters: Citizenship & Belonging or Urban Social Justice. You would be expected to support the development of our teaching and research at a world class level and demonstrate potential for international research leadership.
You must possess a PhD degree or equivalent in a field relevant for the post and will be expected to develop research agendas in relevant areas, based on external funding applications and high quality scholarly publications; to contribute to undergraduate and Masters teaching programmes and PhD. supervision and to contribute to administration. In doing so, you will be expected to contribute to maintaining and further developing an intellectually stimulating research atmosphere in the School and to maintaining and enhancing standards of student attainment at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and the development of an excellent student experience.
