Subject: Re: [BLACKBOARD-USERGROUP] Using Blackboard Collaborate to record classroom-based lectures
Hi Salman
Are you or any of your colleagues members of ALT? There has just recently (over the last couple of weeks or so) been a lot of discussion about lecture capture tools on their email group. If you join up quickly you could probably get access to the digest of the discussion!
I haven't read all of the messages myself yet and can't really help from experience but I think people were generally recommending NOT using a virtual classroom tool for lecture capture but something like Camtasia, Echo360 or Panopto instead, depending on scale.
Regards
Linda

Dear All,
*With apologies for cross-posting*
I am exploring software solutions for recording classroom-based lectures. The recording needs to comprise lecture slides and/or activity on projection screen along with lecturer's voice (hence no video of the lecturer). I was wondering whether anyone has used Blackboard Collaborate (formerly Elluminate) for recording class room-based lectures? If so, would you recommend the software for this purpose? Are there any known issues new users need to be aware of?
I would also like to export recordings into other file formats (FLV, MP4). I have been made aware that this can be achieved through Elluminate Publish? Again, if you have used Elluminate Publish, would you recommend it?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,
Salman
