Open Call for Papers
Submissions are invited from current PhD students whose research is being conducted in the field of Art, Design, Craft, Performance, Social and Critical Theory.
There is no over-arching theme to the conference and one of our aims is to let themes emerge from the submission process engendering new debates and discussions.
Current research at CADRE is focused in the following five clusters and we encourage any PhD student working within or in relation to the following areas to submit practical and / or theoretical presentations:
Digital Theory, Technology and Practice:
Environments, collaboration and interdisciplinary practice; Traditional and digital media ranging from virtual and ludic environments through to animation, sonic art and gallery-based video; The position (both temporal and spatial) of the spectator/participant in relation to moving image and digital technologies; Explorations into both narrative and non-narrative forms in conceptual, immersive and performative spaces.
Critical Theory and Social Practice:
Critical environmental and public art; Performativity, psycho geography and creative practice; Photography, popular culture and the ‘everyday’; The history of signature(s) in art and their mobilization; Participatory and collaborative forms of artistic practice; Artist as facilitator of new routes and pathways into art’s utility; Cultural theory and the politics of representation.
Materials and Theoretical Practice:
The space of the work and tacit knowledge; Studio: the site of creativity; Ideas, materials and expanded practices; Different methodological and conceptual approaches through the manipulation of material in fine art, applied arts and design; Investigations into methods of thinking through making.
Pedagogy and Communications:
Learning and teaching creative practice; Aural/visual cultural history; Technology supported learning, equality & diversity; Sound and areas of visual communication such as typography and visual hierarchies
Creative Processes in the Performing Arts:
Intercultural explorations of body and space; Analysis of the moving performing body;
Site-specific environments and intercultural performance; Scenography and the visual artist in performance; Dance and ageing; Collaborative processes in performance-making.
The Conference is intended as a forum for discussion, an informal survey of current PhD research and a social occasion. Individual conference presentations should last approximately 15 minutes with a further 10 minutes for questions.
Abstracts are invited from PhD students/researchers and should be no longer than 250 words. Abstracts should be emailed to: [log in to unmask] no later than 1st March 2012.
