ICA-Req is an ISO-recognised standard developed by the
International Council on Archives. It aims to produce “globally
harmonised principles and functional requirements for software used
to create and manage electronic records in office environments”.
The project team who developed it included representatives from
Australia, New Zealand, Cayman Islands, the UK, Germany, Malaysia,
Netherlands, South Africa, Sweden, France and the United States.
ICA-Req was endorsed by the International Standards Association as
ISO 16175 in 2011.
ICA is currently supporting a major international project to
develop implementation guidelines, training material and advocacy
leaflets to support organisations in using the standard and meeting
its requirements. The project places particular emphasis on the
needs and circumstances of developing countries. The project began
in 2010 and is due for completion in time to launch the products at
the ICA quadrennial International Congress on Archives in Brisbane,
Australia in August 2012.
The project team is multi-national consisting of representatives
from Australia, Sweden, China, New Zealand, Malaysia, France,
United Kingdom, Singapore, South Africa, Uruguay, Kenya, and the
Netherlands.
The materials developed by the team are now open for peer review, a
