Good afternoon all,
I'm currently seeking around 4 part time volunteers for a project to organise some of the College’s membership files. This would be a good experience for anyone considering or in the process of applying for the MA course or students. You would be working at a site near Bexley/Sidcup Stations but it won’t involve any lone working. Whilst we can't stretch to a salary, we can offer you travel expenses for generously volunteering some of your time.
The role will involve checking, weeding, sorting, listing and boxing up non-current member files according to guidelines you'll receive at the start of the project. There may also be some checking of information against our membership database, to be done in our offices at Bow Churchyard at the end of the project. You will of course receive training and support (IT, Manual Handling etc) to ensure you’re confident in what you’re doing.
I was hoping to start the project in early February, and while I’m flexible on people’s availability I was looking for people to commit no less than a day per week and there’s probably between 2-3 months work at that pace. If it would be easier to work a couple of days per week or you wouldn't be available for the full period this doesn't necessarily rule you out! In view of the fact you won’t be seeing much of the workings of the archive during the project, I’d be quite happy to negotiate you coming back for an extra placement to help you develop any particular skill you’re keen to have on your CV but haven’t done before. If you mention something when you send me your CV I can let you know if I can accommodate it in the near future. As an organization we’re going through some big changes, so there may be opportunities in lots of different areas over the next 12 months. We can talk about this more during the meeting.
If you're interested if you could email me your CV ([log in to unmask]) and let me know which day/s of the week you are available. I'll ask the successful respondents to come for a brief meeting at our temporary HQ in Bow Churchyard, where I can talk you through plans for the project and show you some of the files to give you an idea of what you’d be working with, and answer any questions you might have.
Please feel free to forward on to anyone looking or interested in voluntary projects at the moment. If you’re planning ahead and thinking about placements in Autumn/Winter 2012 please feel free to forward your details and when you’re available and I’d be happy to keep them on file if any other projects come up later in the year.
Kind Regards
Lindsay Ince
