SARCOMA ANALYST
Band 5 £21,176 - £27,625 pa (April 2011)
Full-time 37.5 Hours per Week
Fixed term: 1 Year
The West Midlands Cancer Intelligence Unit (WMCIU) is an NHS organisation dedicated to collecting and analysing data on cancer patients, and using this information to improve quality and choice. The WMCIU is the National Cancer Intelligence Network's lead registry for bone and soft tissue sarcoma.
The Sarcoma Analyst will deliver a defined 12 month work programme on bone and soft tissue sarcomas. They will have access to national data on all sarcoma cases recorded in England and will be responsible for producing key information such as incidence, mortality, prevalence and survival. The agreed work programme includes opportunities to work on projects related to referral patterns, treatment, and the effect of deprivation.
The Sarcoma Analyst's work will be disseminated by reports, presentations, papers, and publications of the National Cancer Intelligence Network. They will also work to support and inform strategic decisions about the commissioning of NHS services. The work programme will be steered by the National Clinical Site Specific Reference Group, a panel of clinical sarcoma specialists from around the country.
The post will be based at the WMCIU but will also work with clinicians at the Birmingham Royal Orthopaedic Hospital.
The post would suit a numerate candidate with a first degree with a strong analytical component and good working knowledge of epidemiology and oncology. The ability to conduct independent analyses of data and clearly present these findings to clinicians and non-specialists is essential.
