Applications are invited for the post of Research Associate in Diabetes and Cancer epidemiology working on a National Awareness and Early Diagnosis Initiative (NAEDI) funded project to address the topic of cancer screening utilisation among patients with type 2 diabetes in England. This 2 year project aims to (i) capture patients with and without type 2 diabetes and compare screening activities for breast, cervical and colorectal cancers across these two groups, taking account of potential confounders for uptake rates in each of the screening types; and to (ii) test the hypothesis that the provision of financial incentives for specific diabetes-related activities competes for time and resources available for non-incentivised preventive services, such as cancer screening, within general practices.
This is an exciting opportunity to advance diabetes and cancer epidemiology and realise patient benefits through the models produced.
You will provide expert statistical and epidemiological analysis within the project team and take a major role in writing papers and presenting research findings in national and international conferences.
You will be educated to higher degree level or have equivalent experience, have experience of epidemiological research in an academic or industrial environment, and have strong biostatistical knowledge and skills. The post also requires the ability to work effectively within teams to achieve timely and valued objectives as well as a strong track record of substantial contributions to research achievements.
