Research Associate in Bioinformatics
MRC Centre for Neuropsychiatric Genetics and Genomics,
Cardiff School of Medicine
You will work in one of the world’s foremost psychiatric genetics groups
in research related to the molecular genetics of schizophrenia and other
psychoses. You will be required to help with the challenges of efficiently
processing, analysing and storing Next Generation Sequencing data
primarily being generated by the MRC Centre for Neuropsychiatric Genetics
and Genomics and in tandem with the Wales Gene Park and also the MRC
Centre’s external collaborators. Specifically, this will involve the
application of variant calling and annotation software to genomic
resequencing data, as well as the application and development of
approaches aimed at interpreting quantitative sequencing data (e.g.
transcriptomic and ChIP-Seq experiments. The successful applicant will
have proven experience in UNIX/LINUX, perl scripting and in the
manipulation and analysis of large biological datasets from different
sources and in different formats. You will have experience of conducting
and organising research projects, a demonstrable history of publications
in the area, and a PhD in Computer
Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Bioinformatics or a highly related topic.
An understanding of biology, particularly genetics, would be advantageous.
The position will be located within the internationally-renowned MRC
Centre for Neuropsychiatric Genetics and Genomics, which provides an
integrated environment for research groups in bioinformatics, statistical
genetics and molecular genetics to interact. Training will be available in
statistical genetics and bioinformatics. For more details of our research,
