Has anyone managed to get in using this workaround? We have tried this
and are still unable to access ScienceDirect from off-campus here at the
University of Portsmouth.

As promised here's what we had from Elsevier:
> Yes there is an issue, it affects all SHIBBOLETH users, the
engineers
> and 2nd line are aware of this and they have been trying to get a
fix
> since last week. There is a workaround that users are being informed
> of as below, please be aware there are no issues if users are within
> the IP range of the university (if the Uni has registered IP ranges)
Further to this: where they say "Shibboleth", I suspect they mean FAM
in
general: we are aware that at least one site using Guanxi has the same
problem, and that the work-around below works for them.
However, we have also heard that access to Science Direct content via
EZproxy is also unavailable.
> 1. Go to SciVerse ScienceDirect Home page
>
> 2. Click Institutional login
>
> 3. Select UK Federation
>
> 4. Select your University
>
> 5. Login to your University
>
> 6. Login fails, you then get the error message
>
> 7. Ignore error message, click on Search, I'm just an SD Guest user
>
> 8. Click on Login, then your University login (the institutional
link that keeps the institutional name)
>
> 9. They should then be logged in.
Hoping this is useful,
