I have always had a great deal of respect for Ed Psychs and, so far, I have found them to be very sensible people. However, the clue is in the word "Educational". As a chartered psychologist specialising in occupational psychology, I too would not presume to diagnose at an individual level. At an organisational level, however, I feel more than qualified to identify stressors and general levels of mental strain.
I guess it's horses for courses.
Kevin

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] work related stress preventing return to work
Advice Needed
Presently dealing with 3 linked cases of absence due to stress, caused by incidents in 1 work place. Senior manager who is also qualified Educational Psychologist has verbally expressed how can I as the OHA have the ability to assess someone’s mental health, and arrive at the opinion they are unfit for work. He states they should be seen by someone who is specifically trained in mental health for this opinion to be arrived at, e.g. Psychologist/Psychiatric Nurse.
What are the opinions of this forum?
Have other OHA's come across this problem before?
Thanks
Joyce
