irssi --connect=sa210.ph.liv.ac.uk --port=6697
produces:
17:40 -!- Irssi: Looking up sa210.ph.liv.ac.uk
17:40 -!- Irssi: Connecting to sa210.ph.liv.ac.uk [138.253.48.120] port 6697
17:40 -!- Irssi: Connection to sa210.ph.liv.ac.uk established
17:40 -!- Irssi: Connection lost to sa210.ph.liv.ac.uk
So do I need to use something other than irssi?
I have no particular preference for irc over jabber (and note that irc
is, or was, banned at CERN).
