Dear all,
Please see below for details of a postdoctoral position that is
available in the School of Chemistry at the University of Edinburgh. I
would be grateful if you could pass this on to anyone who might be
interested.
Best wishes,
Derek Wann

School of Chemistry, University of Edinburgh
Postdoctoral Research Associate
Line manager: Dr. Derek Wann
Salary Scale: £29,972 - £35,788 pa
Fixed term: 24 months
Further information, including the application process, is online at
http://www.jobs.ed.ac.uk (Vacancy Reference No: 3015223)
Application deadline: 20th January 2012
The Wann research group is concerned with the determination of
structures of gas-phase molecules and is currently planning new
apparatus to allow this work to be continued with increased time
resolution. For further information about the research group see
http://www.ged.chem.ed.ac.uk. There is a vacancy for a postdoctoral
researcher, who will be working on the EPSRC-funded grant: "Towards
molecular movies: exploring reaction dynamics using electron
diffraction".
The successful candidate will assist the PI in managing the design and
construction of an ultrafast electron diffraction apparatus. They will
work closely with a group of PhD students to use a femtosecond laser
to produce sub-picosecond bunches of electrons, and to identify and
research appropriate candidates for study using the apparatus.
Applicants should have, or expect to receive, a PhD in physical
chemistry, chemical physics, or a closely related subject. They should
have a strong background in physical chemistry, including the study of
ultrafast chemical processes using femtosecond lasers and the ability
to handle complex data. The ability to work independently and as part
of a research team is essential, as are exemplary communication skills.
Informal enquiries should be made to Dr. Derek Wann ([log in to unmask])
