For info, euroCRIS are working on defining a single xml schema/file for CERIF .. we held a Cerif in Action workshop in Sunderland yesterday - see http://cerifinaction.wordpress.com/ which jeard from Brigitte Joerg [CERIF Task Group leader] and Thomas Vestdam from Atira on the latest proposals ... more to follow on euroCRIS website soon.
So maybe we should try this new approach for Names files ...
cc'd Keith Jeffery and Brigitte Joerg [eurocris] for info.
All the best

Subject: CERIF output from Names data
Dear all
We're currently looking at how best to support CERIF output from the JISC
Names data (http://names.mimas.ac.uk/) and would appreciate some advice from
those of you who have experience of doing similar work or who might have a
requirement for using CERIF-formatted data from Names.
Our understanding so far is that the CERIF specification calls for multiple
XML files for the various entities described by CERIF. With other standards
we're supporting, we provide output of a single record in a single file, for
example: http://names.mimas.ac.uk/individual/35219.json.
With the requirements of CERIF for splitting all the information out into
separate files, this approach is not possible for this particular standard,
so we're thinking along the lines of having a complete, separate dump of
Names data in the multiple XML files required for CERIF validation.
Our question to you is, is it worth also providing a record with CERIF-style
formatting (in response to a request like .../individual/1.cerif) which
would combine the CERIF elements supported by Names data into a single file
in the way that we do for other formats? Are there any ways in which this
would be useful? Or would it make more sense to just provide the very basic
information which corresponds to CERIF's cfPers element (PersonID,
Birthdate, Gender, URI) in that location?
