Hi!
I run a daily sync of our student record system with Blackboard, which applies predefined "institution roles" to existing users, based on their status in the stud rec system.
I create an XML file which is run as a snapshot and should (if the BlackBoard documentation is to be believed) effectively remove all existing roles for a given user and re-apply roles from the XML snapshot. These roles may be exactly what they already had or be different, or a mixture.
I have created a role called "not_enrolled" which (as you can probably guess) is applied to students who have network accounts (i.e. can use our BB portal) but who have not fully completed enrolment.
When I look on the Institution roles page in the System Admin I see all the roles listed, with a tally of the number of users with the role in question.
Here's the question:
Is this tally the number of valid users *who currently* have this role, OR *who have ever* had this role?
With the "not_enrolled" role, the tally should drop the further into the term we go, as students enrol and have this flag removed, but I seem to have approximately 4x too many BlackBoard users with this role!?!
I have checked the XML snapshot file and it agrees with the stud rec system, so either:
(a) the snapshot process is not dropping the roles as it's supposed to,
or,
(b) the stats on this page don't mean what I thought they meant.
I would be surprised if it is point (a) as I have yet to find a student that appears to be "wrongly tagged" with this role.
Unfortunately the BB front end doesn't allow users to be listed by institution role....
Thanks in advance for any advice!
