Hi Rob
As Justin says RNIB offer services. Another good resource and trainer is http://webaim.org/ from the States. The are also lots of good books on the subject. For a basic web site the principles of accessible web design are fairly straightforward. The more dynamic features, whistles and bells you add the potential to make it inaccessible increases. If you do get individual people volunteering to test your site you need to be aware that different assistive technology handles web sites in different ways so JAWS screen reading software will be different to HAL in how it orders things etc.

Subject: [ACCESSIBUILT] Accessible Website
Good morning,
I volunteer with a charity that provides cycling opportunities for people of all ages and abilities. We would like to make our website more accessible and need know how we should go about this please.
The website is very basic at the moment but we are hoping to recruit a volunteer with IT expertise.
