I suspect something involving copper, given the green colour. Failing that, they look like giant maggots like those ones in The Green Death.

Subject: This week's mystery object
The photographed objects were recovered from 2.5 m beneath playing fields at a site where the fill material is predominantly colliery spoil. The first photograph shows them freshly exposed, the second after being stored for a week. I have them in a vial if it is worth sending them for analysis. I haven't tried breaking one yet. All ideas welcome!
