Paula Whittell, partner in environmental law with Berrymans Lace Mawer, solicitors, will provide an update on the significance of three major 2011 judgements on asbestos related liabilities in relation to exposure levels, in two cases before the Supreme Court, Sienkiewicz v Greif (UK) Ltd, and Willmore v Knowsley MBC, and one in the Court of Appeal, Williams v University of Birmingham & Anor. They deal with levels of exposure which cause a breach of the duty of care, and those levels which cause a material risk. She will explain how these judgements were reached and how they will impact on liabilities involving asbestos contaminated land.
Colleague, Joanne Holbrook, solicitor in environmental law at Berrymans Lace Mawer will consider the regulatory enforcement of asbestos liabilities and will demonstrate alongside Paula, the common traps that corporate clients fall into by underestimating asbestos liabilities.
The webinar will be hosted by Professor Paul Nathanail. Paul is the director of the University of Nottingham eMasters in Contaminated Land Management.
